Research in 2014 Sunflowersa

NSA RESEARCH FORUM ATTRACTS LARGE CROWD
More than 140 growers, industry representatives, and researchers attended the National Sunflower Association's 36th annual Research Forum January 8-9 in Fargo, ND. Researchers from the Dakotas, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Canada presented a total of 22 papers and 15 posters. Attendees heard presentations about the latest research on weeds, insects, disease, and new varieties of sunflower. All presentations will be uploaded to the NSA website in the next few weeks.
2014 RESEARCH REQUESTS TOTAL OVER $500,000
The National Sunflower Association received 27 research project requests for 2014 totaling $530,120 The NSA Research Committee met in early January to review proposals and make recommendations for the NSA Board of Directors. The NSA board will then make final decisions on funding during the annual spring meeting in late February. Projects include irrigation timing studies, pest management studies and studies of diseases such as Phomopsis, downy mildew, and Rhizopus head rot.
